Lake Victoria and the Perch
Lake Victoria, located in Africa, is the size of West Virginia and is the largest
tropical lake in the world. The lake houses a fish called the cichlid which is an
algae eating fish, and since the British government decided to stock the lake with
the Nile Perch, it is home to these fish as well. The time of the arrival of the perch is
unknown, but when their presence was confirmed, the government decided to
to help increase their population. The cichlid and the Nile perch are both food
sources for the people living in this area as well as an economic booster because the
fishing industry provides many jobs.
