Masa's Report No1 (August 31) First Day's Best Four

  1. Shower Today I had a shower I can not forget. I poured cold rain water over my head. At Joe's house, there is no bathroom yet, so we use rainwater barrels. It was cold, but "VERY GOOD!" REALLY REFRESHING! I felt that it was not good for my heart. But Joe said it was good for my heart. Joe began building this house when he was 16 years old. Hard worker!
  2. Slip and Fall Today we took a walk along the Etowah river where Joe lives. During the walk, our "Mystery Teacher," Sayuri, slipped and fell on the river bank. Along the river, there are many trees and it is was cool. I felt that many leaves have fallen on the ground and made the soil rich. I will have fun fishing in the river here. A lot of rain has fallen recently and made the river a little bit muddy. A 16 year old boy in the neighborhood named Aaron said that he caught a 60 centimeter trout in the river here. Maybe the trout I catch will be between 30 and 40 centimeters. I tried some Red Man chewing tobacco for the first time. At first it had a hot, spicy taste, but after chewing it it became more sweet. You must remember to spit the juice and not to swallow it, or you will get sick.)
  3. Shopping On my first shopping trip in America, I did not understand how to pay money. I learned that C equals cents and $ equals dollars. When the lady at the register of a convenience store said "twenty-eight", I did not understand right away. For 99 cents I bought a liter cup of citrus soda. "Big Size!" It had a strong soda tase. I want to buy a Cola next.
  4. Self-Introduction I went to an American town for the first time. On our way to town, we met Nell. She was the first foreigner besides Joe I have talked to. When I tried to speak, I was afraid and all I could say was "My name is Masa." I felt that Nell was a regular lively grandmother sort of person.
