Thanks for making the World Class Learning Alliance's (worldclass.net)
8th annual RiversAlive (riversalive.org) clean-up a success!
The group on October 10, 2009 after cleaning-up the riverside land at Hightower Bridge and Jay Bridge
We collected 780lbs of trash and 12 tires. Even after 7 years of river clean-ups on these same sites, the trash and
tires continues to get dumped there.
After the clean-up some hard-working kids just had to jump-in before it gets too cold to swim.
We sure would love to see small county parks at these sites to keep the places clean and safe for families year-round.

After the clean-up everyone had Sayuri's homemade (and home-rasised) corn bread and tomato soup at Revival Gardens Organic Produce and Eggs.

In the afternoon we conducted an invertebrate sampling on the Etowah at Revival Gardens.
Caleb, a North Georgia College student majoring in Middle Grades Education, helped helped Joe Adams take the sample with a kick-sein net
while the younger kids played in the river.

Back at the house, we counted 61 creatures and more than 10 different species, including the larvae of stoneflies, mayflies, riffle beetles, dobsonflies, cadisflies, dragonflies, aquatic worms, crawfish, and a striped salamander. Tyson (center), another North Georgia College student majoring in Business helped identify the creatures with the kids.

We found two salamanders today: the brown one in the river during the invertebrate sampling, and the orange one near a creek at Jay Bridge.
